Read a company map without inventing a ranking
Position can summarize evidence. It cannot tell you which vendor is best for your workflow.
Name what each axis measures
The startidea map places companies by enterprise-readiness status and API evidence. These are categories, not continuous measurements of product quality. A move toward documented API access says something about the available interface evidence. It does not establish usability, reliability, fair pricing, or suitability for your team.
Treat the unknown band as a work queue
A company in Unknown may lack inspectable documentation, may have a private interface, or may not have completed a source review. Do not interpret that position as zero capability. Open the company detail, inspect the review status and sources, and decide which unanswered question matters to your use case. One targeted question may be more valuable than another broad search.
Filter before comparing
A construction layout system and an invoice verification product can both appear in construction research while serving different buyers and tasks. Sector filters reduce clutter, but a sector is still broader than a shortlist. Compare companies that can produce the same required output under comparable constraints. Keep adjacent products visible as alternatives, with their differences stated.
Do not measure empty space
Dots are offset within their status bands so they remain clickable. The gap between two dots is not a measured product difference, and an empty area is not proof of an unmet customer need. Use the map to find records to inspect. Use customer evidence and a defined evaluation to decide whether a gap is commercially meaningful.
